It’s Playtime! Bridal Shower Games

By Jacqueline | Filed in Uncategorized

Bridal showers are nothing without the games, whether you prefer to play it safe or explore risky territory. Here are just a few that I came across:

  • The Ingredient Game

Many bridal showers are quite traditional, with gifts based around the old-fashioned idea of a wife’s role as a home-builder. The Ingredient Game tests guests’ knowledge about what goes into preparing various dishes. One player will copy out a number of popular recipes but omit one ingredient from each of them; the guest who correctly guesses the most missing ingredients gets a small cooking-related gift.

  • Fold Over

This hilarious way to entertain guests (and the bride-to-be) involves writing a romantic poem about the happy couple – but with a difference. Players take it in turn to compose their lines but the paper is folded to hide all but the freshest line. After all guests have contributed, the sheet of paper is unfolded and the final piece is read out to the bride-to-be.

  • Two Truths and a Lie

This game can stray into dangerous territory,so be on your toes! Each guest has to tell the others three things about themselves, one of which is a lie. Guests who correctly pick out the lies are awarded points.

Remember your manners! JaclinArt also do bridal shower thank you cards.

Really WILD Bridal Showers

By Jacqueline | Filed in Uncategorized

Bridal showers can be refined, sophisticated occasions with elegant table settings, the finest delicacies to eat and pleasant conversation – or they can be an excuse for a huge party!

While a wild bridal shower rarely reaches the level of a bachelorette party, there is often a little more spice than your average shower. Games might be a little more on the adventurous side and perhaps the drinks (and conversation) might flow that bit more freely.

If you’re planning on throwing a wild-themed bridal shower, zebra and leopard prints are sure to get the message across. Just take a look at these offerings from JaclinArt’s collection!

In fact, if you can’t get enough of zebra, click to see more Zebra stuff from JaclinArt.

To help guests get in touch with their wild sides, try adorning the room with leopard or zebra-print throws and lashings of pink silk. Beads and feathers add even more texture. One useful tip is not to overdo the prints but to use them as tasteful accents.

You can go a little bit wild with the food as well, with plenty of sweet cakes and candy on offer – naughty but nice!

JaclinArt can also help you out with any other animal print gifts you need to find. Browse Animal Print Gifts here. If you’re planning a wild-themed wedding, there are all sorts of animals that can inspire you, from cheetah to peacock and cow to giraffe. Click to see more Animal Print Wedding stuff.

So What is a Bridal Shower Anyway?

By Jacqueline | Filed in Uncategorized

There are two reasons why I needed to ask this question:

1) I’m a guy!

2) I’m a British guy, and bridal showers are only just starting to take off here.

I mean, we have our ‘hen nights’ (stag nights for the lads), but these are a bit more like bachelorette parties.

So, for the sake of anyone else who might be wondering, here is what I found out about bridal showers (and it usually has nothing whatsoever to do with water).

A bridal shower is a pre-wedding party thrown for the bride, with the central purpose of showering her with gifts. Although we Brits often think of it as an American invention, similar customs stretch way back and were often arranged to help women from poorer families to afford a dowry payment.

Bridal showers are usually thrown by friends (or distant family) as it is seen as inappropriate for close family members to ask for gifts. Everyone has to bring a gift (and YES, they do have to also buy a wedding gift), and the time is spent reminiscing, eating, drinking, playing games and generally having a good time. Bridal showers are often themed (more about that later in the week).

If you have a friend who’s due to tie the knot, consider arranging a wonderful bridal shower for her – she will be sure to thank you for it! Here are a few of JaclinArt’s bridal shower products to start the creative juices flowing.

There are stamps and invites…

It’s All About Dads!

By Jacqueline | Filed in Uncategorized

Being a dad is great (well, most of the time). I have a 7-year-old son who is learning more about the world every day, and a 4-year-old daughter who is a real cutie with a strong personality. Every day brings something special to add to the memories, but when they reach out and give you something from their own hearts – a picture, a kiss, a hug – it is the best gift any dad could ever hope for.

So this Father’s Day, just over a month away, remember to reach out to your dad. Even if he doesn’t show it, underneath it might melt his heart.

And you don’t have to limit yourself to cards: take a look at JaclinArt’s selection of ‘Daddy Day’ products for inspiration; the thermal drinks holders are sure to be a  welcome reminder of home when dad is out hiking in the mountains.

Thinking of Going Green?

By Jacqueline | Filed in Uncategorized

If you have a strong ecological conscience, then a wedding can be an ideal way to show your loved ones what it means to you to treat the Earth kindly.

Take these environmentally friendly bridesmaid bags. What better way to advertise your principles on your happy day?

Flowers are another important consideration if you want a wedding that doesn’t damage the Earth. It is a sad fact that many flowers are imported from countries where irrigation consumes valuable, limited water supplies. Pesticides and genetic modification are also contentious issues (did you know they often spray roses with perfume because some GM varieties no longer smell like roses should!)

Consider organic (or even silk) flowers, along with a potted centerpiece to reduce your environmental impact. Ask your florist what’s local and in season at the time of the wedding. As mentioned in yesterday’s post on fall weddings, choosing seasonal flowers can also be an ideal way to come up with color themes. Click to see more Floral Wedding ideas!

Ensuring your invites are on recycled paper is another great way to show consideration for our planet. Here are a few products which give you the option to choose 100% post-consumer recycled paper.

Turquoise Blue and Purple Rose Wedding Template zazzle_invitationKelly Green Muted Damask Wedding zazzle_invitationPink and Blue Damask Wedding zazzle_invitation

Then there’s the dress. Would you be prepared to save the manufacturing costs and shop for a pre-worn dress? If not, the next best thing is choosing a supplier that works with sustainable fabrics (organic silk, hemp, cotton, etc.) You could also ask your bridesmaids to wear clothes they already own (although it may not be wise to be too specific with the color request – not everyone has eggplant purple in their wardrobe!)

In terms of the ring, the conscientious will want to make sure that any stones are conflict-free. In 2002, the UN introduced the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, which awards a certificate to those suppliers who can prove their diamonds were mined and shipped ethically. Your jewelery store should be able to provide this certificate if you ask for it.

These suggestions are just for starters; there are many more ways to demonstrate to your nearest and dearest that love doesn’t have to cost the Earth!

Planning Your Fall Wedding?

By Jacqueline | Filed in Uncategorized

Fall – such a pretty, simple word for a stunning time of year.

I know you might not want to think about Fall yet but  time soon flies by, especially if you’re planning a wedding.

The warm golds, rich crimsons and blazing oranges are just some of nature’s vibrant palette at this time of year and these are perfect for inspiration. Take a look at some of the lovely designs below for a start.

Be inventive with your Fall wedding favors! From caramel apples to mini maple syrup bottles, let your imagination take control. Perhaps you could place some chocolates shaped as acorns at each place setting, attractively packaged and decorated. Get a pad and paper and start brainstorming today.

Your wedding centerpieces should also reflect a fall theme. Sunflowers, dahlias, dark roses and calla lilies are all seasonal flowers that can be considered; check out a small selection of Jaclinart’s fall flower invites.

Your centerpieces should be as much about shape as color. You can opt for a tall display, based around willow branches for example, or you can make them dense and luxuriant, using elegant candles for balance.

Weddings Around the Globe

By Jacqueline | Filed in Uncategorized

Continuing our week on weddings, we take a look at some of the colorful customs (and costumes) on display outside of the United States.

China – Written in the Stars

Image Licenced under CC-2-Generic. Author: Lim Lik Wei

The Chinese love to incorporate Astrology into their weddings, and take great care in ensuring couples marry at an auspicious time. The Chinese fan has become popular worldwide, and Chinese fan dances are renowned for their grace and elegance. Jaclinart has incorporated this ancient oriental symbol into some of her wedding products:

India – The Sacred Fire

Hindu weddings are partly performed in Sanskrit, and are sacred to the fire deity, Agni, who acts as witness to the ceremony. If you like the idea of a fire-themed wedding, Jaclinart has designed some cool invites in orange and black tones, featuring striking fire flowers:

Gold and Fire Flowers Wedding zazzle_invitationOrange and Black Fire Flower Petals Wedding zazzle_invitation

Korea – Costing a Fortune

With no expense spared with the engagement presents (which can cost thousands of dollars), it’s important for Koreans to be sure that they will enjoy matrimonial harmony. Therefore, a fortune-teller (Kung-Hap) is required to scan the futures of the betrothed. The bride will often be seen in traditional dress (hanbok) consisting of a vibrant jeogori and chima, while the groom will often wear a loose-sleeved jacket and baggy trousers. The norigae is a traditional knotted and jewelled accessory worn to bring good luck.

Greece – A Smashing Party

The custom of plate-smashing is legendary, but there’s more to a Greek wedding than wasting good crockery! For example, did you know that it is customary to throw money at the musicians, and for the bride and groom to present sugar-coated almonds to close friends and family? Jaclinart also designs customized plates for wedding mementos. They are dishwasher proof but, unfortunately, are unlikely to survive a Greek party.

Who Said Romance Was Dead?

By Jacqueline | Filed in Uncategorized

Not the couples in today’s post! Some guys and girls will pull out all the stops to woo the one they love. Indeed, some of the efforts below would make most of us seem as romantic as a dirty dishcloth (or maybe I’m just speaking for myself). Still, anything has to be more romantic than the ‘blackening the bride’ tradition from yesterday’s post.

Romantic gesture #1

Take Final Fantasy addict, Seth Hay. Now, gaming fanatics aren’t renowned for their attentive personalities, but this guy sure broke the mould. His love for girlfriend Cheryl Murray was such that he convinced the staff at a Final Fantasy concert in Toronto to broadcast his proposal in front of over 3,000 people, while playing romantic music.

Of course, there are few things as romantic as a rose. Take a look at these blooms for instance (and there are many more hues to choose from). I personally love the teal blue.

Romantic gesture #2

Another lovestruck romantic, going by the name of ‘Chad Wild Clay’, has a YouTube video going the rounds, whereby he disguised a proposal to his girlfriend Vy as an iPhone commercial. I challenge you not to shed a tear or two at this video:

Romantic venues

Although recently wedded couples have always gone away on exotic honeymoons, many now choose to get married overseas. Some of the most popular spots to get hitched are romantic Italy, sun-blessed Sri Lanka, remote Fiji and spectacular Iceland (bottom). Getting married under those stunning Northern Lights would be amazing, and you wouldn’t need an excuse to snuggle up under the duvet cover with those chilly temperatures! You could even make the Aurora your wedding theme, using some of Jaclinart’s ‘rainbow’ products!

Out of the Box: Crazy Weddings

By Jacqueline | Filed in Uncategorized

Not everybody wants to float down the aisle of a church in an elegant white dress, swear solemn oaths and exchange rings in front of family and friends. It seems that’s far too ordinary for some of you girls (and guys) out there.

From the novel and quirky to the downright weird (and icky!), it’s amazing what can come out of the human mind!

Unusual Venues

If you were under the impression that weddings had to cost an arm and a leg – think again. On September 09, 2009, 9 couples got hitched in a 99 cents only store in Hollywood for a bargain 99 cents! Everything the couple needed was supplied from the store’s own line of products. I bet the brides were on cloud number nine – or maybe not. The above date would have been an easy one to remember, but to ensure your guests get it right, consider sending out ‘Save the Date’ postcards, like the ones below:

Save the Date Hot Pink Tiger Print Monogram zazzle_postcardButterflies Blue Pink Purple Gold Save the Date zazzle_postcard

Happy couples have also celebrated their nuptials at the UK Houses of Parliament and the one and only Walt Disney World!

Kooky Customs

In some parts of India, mock marriage ceremonies are made up whereby a human has to (temporarily) marry an animal to ward off evil spirits. Now, I know plenty of people who seem to be wedded to their pets, but that just takes the (dog) biscuit.

If you would like your wedding to have a touch of the ‘wild’ about it, check out some of Jaclinart’s animal-themed products, like this Zebra invite!

Mint Green and Chocolate Zebra Wedding zazzle_invitation

You can also visit her zebra themed online store to get an even bigger dose of zebra themed items.

Prize for the most disgusting wedding tradition has to go to the Scots, though.  In an old custom known as ‘blackening the bride’, the poor woman is doused with buckets of foul liquid containing anything from tar and feathers to dirty dishwater.

Now if that’s not enough to put you off marriage for life, I don’t know what is! Fortunately though, this tradition isn’t widespread now, so don’t strike stunning Scotland from your wedding venue wish-list!

Hi Everyone

My name’s Neil Hocking, and I am thrilled to be taking on the role of keeping you all informed about what’s going on in the vibrant, colorful world of Jaclinart.

Over the coming weeks and months, I hope to educate and entertain you as I embark upon my own personal journey of discovery, digging out all sorts of interesting, enlightening and sometimes downright bizarre material.

If you’ve never experienced the delights of Jaclinart before, then I suggest you have a browse through the Jaclinart Zazzle Shop. There are so many products and designs to choose from that you’re bound to come across something that resonates with you. I grew up in Cornwall, England by the coast, a stone’s throw from a magical little castle on top of a granite island. In fact, the town I was born in (Penzance) is the first main town you would come across if you crossed the Atlantic from the East Coast!I’ve always loved being by the sea – it can be so wild and remote – so here are a few designs that piqued my attention:

Beaches are often really wonderful places to get married (my friends got hitched on a beautiful sunny day in south west Ireland and when the church doors opened on to a sea view…wow!).

On the subject of weddings, some of the first few blog posts are going to be on just that theme: crazy weddings, exotic weddings, romantic weddings, green weddings, fall weddings – you name it.

Don’t worry if you’re a novice about weddings. I’ve only been to a handful and I must admit, I had never even heard of a wedding favor or a bridal shower before exploring Jaclinart. So, as I said, this is a personal journey of discovery – hope you can come along with me!

But before all the marital fun begins, I have to give you a gentle dig in the ribs about graduation invites – you hadn’t forgotten, had you? Here’s a couple to get you thinking (one for the guys and one for the girls):

Don’t worry if you don’t happen to be called Ethan or Brianna: all products are fully customisable.

Oh, and for those who are interested, here’s that little castle:
